In today’s world computers are an integral part of everyday life.  But for many of us, these new technologies can be confusing and even a bit scary.  That’s OK – your library is here to help you with our series of Computer Skills 101 classes!  We’ll teach you everything from how to turn your computer on to how to set up an email to using social media websites like Facebook.

Space is limited in these programs – contact the branch to register.  Different classes are offered each month.  Here is a list of the upcoming classes being offered at each location…

Bedford Central Library (540-586-8911 ext. 1114)
Classes are held on the 3rd Tuesday of every month from 3 to 4 PM.
Need help with a different topic – one-on-one tutoring is also available by appointment.

  • December 17th: Smartphone Basics –  In this class, we will be answering some of the most commonly asked questions about Smartphones.
  • January 21st: Introduction to Windows 10 – A beginner’s look at how to use a computer that has a Microsoft Windows 10 operating system.
  • February 18th: Computer Clean Up and Backup – Learn how to clean up your computer, prevent viruses and malware, defrag, and backup your files. For the beginner, but be able to use the mouse.
  • March 17th: File Management – Learn how to find where things are saved on your computer and how to better organize your files.
  • April 21st: Digital Photos 101 – Get tips for organizing, backing up, and editing photos, including getting them from your phone or camera to your computer.

Forest Public Library (540-425-7002)
Classes are held on the 3rd* Thursday of every month from 1:30 to 2:30 PM.

  • December 19th:  Smart Phone One on One – Sign up for a 15-minute session to go over basic smartphone questions.  All smartphone types. 
  • January 16th: Microsoft Word 101 – Learn the basics of Microsoft Word! Useful for making to-do lists, writing letters, creating a resume for job search, and more. This skill is a must-have for many jobs these days – learn how it’s done!
  • February 20th: Email & Attachments – Learn how to attach files to an email and open attachments sent to you.
  • March 19th: Internet Safety – Learn how to browse online safely to protect your computer from malicious programs and to protect yourself from identity theft.
  • April 9th*: Using The Library’s Digital Resources – Learn how to access and use the library’s FREE apps for borrowing E (electronic) books, audiobooks, magazines, music, movies, and TV shows.

    *April’s class will be held on the 2nd Thursday due to the Friends of the Forest Library’s
    Spring Book Sale.

Moneta/SML Library (540-425-7004)
Classes are typically held on the 1st and 2nd Thursday of every month from 1 to 2:30 PM.

  • December 5th: Digital Photos 101 – Get tips for organizing, backing up, and editing photos, including getting them from your phone or camera to your computer.

  • February 6th: Microsoft Excel 101 – Learn to use Microsoft Excel. This spreadsheet software is the go-to for simple accounting, list-making, charts and graphs, and so much more. This class is a beginner class that will introduce you to Excel, but you should be able to use the mouse.
  • February 13th: Digital Photos 101 – Get tips for organizing, backing up, and editing photos, including getting them from your phone or camera to your computer.
  • March 5th: Basic Photo Editing –  In this class, you will learn basic photo editing skills including…cropping, resizing, photo saturation, color to black and white and more.
  • March 12th: Email Basics – Learn about setting up an email, how to write and respond to an email, how to download and open attachments, how to attach documents to an email.
  • April 2nd: Digital Photos 101 – Get tips for organizing, backing up, and editing photos, including getting them from your phone or camera to your computer.
  • April 9th: Introduction to Windows 10 – A beginner’s look at how to use a computer that has a Microsoft Windows 10 operating system.

The Big Island, Montvale, and Stewartsville locations also have computer skills tutoring available once a month – you choose the topic.
Big Island (540- 425-7000) – Tutoring available on the 2nd Tuesday of every month from 4 to 7 PM.

Montvale (540-425-7006) – Tutoring available on the 3rd Thursday of every month from 3 to 4 PM.
Stewartsville (540-425-7008) – Tutoring available on the 3rd Tuesday of every month from 5 to 6 PM.
