Annual Book Festival

The annual Bedford Book Festival, sponsored by the Bedford Public Library System Foundation, has been a successful tool for connecting the Bedford community with the written word. Originating with the publication of Alex Kershaw's The Bedford Boys in 2003, the Bedford Book Festival has presented authors and poets relevant to the community for five years.

The Festival intends to connect readers with writers, enlarging the perspective and scope of appreciation for the written word, its relevance and significance. By introducing readers to authors, the Library serves to encourage and confirm the value of reading as a means of expanding one's horizons and recognizing the human face behind the page.

The Festival also functions to expand readers' repertoire, encouraging patrons to read outside of their comfort zone, exploring poetry and other genres they would have previously passed up.

Finally, the Festival serves the Library's mission statement in supporting lifelong learning and enjoyment by broadening the cultural opportunities in our community.
