School House Rock Live!
presented by The Roanoke Children’s Theatre
A play based on the popular Saturday morning cartoon that taught kids history, grammar, math and more will be performed live at your library this summer by actors/actresses from the Roanoke Children’s Theatre. Go on a journey with Tom, a brand new teacher, who is a bit nervous about starting his first day. While watching tv to relax, characters emerge to show him how to win his students over through song and quite a bit of imagination.

Join us as we welcome back the Roanoke Children’s Theatre to the library for their Kids on Broadway program! Children will be exposed to live performance through a variety of songs from their favorite Broadway musicals such as The Little Mermaid! By the end of this program, students will have the opportunity to experience the dramatic arts themselves through song, dance, and expression.

Aliens: Escape From Planet Earth
An Interactive Science & Storytelling Program
Presented by the ScienceTellers
The Bedford Public Library System proudly welcomes a new group to our annual Summer Reading Program line up – the ScienceTellers! ScienceTellers have performers across the country who use storytelling to make science fun and understandable for young children.
This summer the story is all about aliens trying to escape planet Earth!
During a midnight meteor shower, something mysterious falls from the sky toward Earth — but it’s not a shooting star. Two curious kids venture into the forest to investigate and find themselves mixed up with a family of visitors from another planet! Pursued by a crazy space scientist, they must risk everything to rescue the aliens and get them back to their spaceship — before it’s too late!
Throughout this amazing intergalactic story, we use science experiments to bring the story to life! In the second part of the show, we go “behind the scenes” of the special effects and recreate the science experiments with the help of volunteers from the audience.
Discover the unbelievable world of physics and chemistry through exciting experiments, like:
Turning a liquid into solid “worms” through a chemical reaction.
Launching a potato into the air using Boyle’s law.
Making a flying rocket using two common household chemicals.
Transferring energy between matter to create a “rainstorm.”
And much more!
Don’t miss this action-packed and educational alien adventure using science experiments for special effects. It’s totally out of this world!
Join us at the library today as we watch L. Frank Baum’s literary classic “The Wizard of Oz” magically retold in the Bright Star Touring Theatre’s 2-actor, 45-minute adaptation.
Since 1900, this literary classic has been a favorite among young readers. Join Dorothy, Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion on their journey through the fanciful land of Oz!
This event is part of the 2019 Summer Reading Program.
The Moneta/SML library will have a free, special family program on Thursday, July 25 from 5:30-7:00. Kids, ages 5-10, and their families will have fun with Captain Vic learning about different kinds of dinosaurs, how they lived, the difference between dinosaurs and pterodactyls, and how they are related to birds. We will have models of dinosaurs and kids will be able to ask questions at the end of the program. There will be refreshments.
Registration is required; please call us at 540-425-7004 to sign up.
