SML Photo Club 2018 Exhibition
at the MOarts Gallery – Moneta/SML Library
Saturday, September 1st thru Saturday, September 29th
The SML Photo Club was inspired by the Smith Mountain Arts Council to provide area photographers with a venue to share and improve the quality of their photos.
Open to all who have an interest in photography, the club meets on the first Monday of each month at 7:00 PM at the Moneta/ SML Library except for September’s meeting which will be held on Tuesday, September 4th. For each meeting members bring photos to review and discuss. With this feedback the photographers learn from one another, explore photography in a creative way and instruct other members in new photography skills. One photo that will be in the exhibition was taken of the exterior of the Taubman Museum in Roanoke by club President, John O’Connell. In this photograph, an edge of the contemporary museum with its smooth, metallic-like exterior is contrasted with traditional mid-century modern red brick buildings in the background. In a shape like a ship’s prow, the art museum takes three quarters of the photo with the older distant buildings seemingly overwhelmed by the new. Titled “New Modern, Old Modern,” the contrast in architectural styles makes a strong visual statement about time and change.
Many more photos of subjects ranging from landscape to still life will be in the exhibit.
The SML Photo Club 2018 Exhibition may be viewed during library hours.
